Texas Level II Private Security Officer (Unarmed Security Officer)

  • Training: You will need to complete the Level 2 course by clicking here.
Texas Level III Private Security Officer (armed Security Officer)

**Special note: You do not have to take the level II course or apply before taking the Level III, however your level III will not get approved before you have completed the training and licensing process for Level II.

  • Minimum Age: An applicant for a security officer commission must be at least 18 years of age as referenced in the Texas Private Security Statutes and rules section 1702.113.

  • Training:
    • Online Classroom: You will need to take the Level III Online Course by clicking here. TPD Course price $80
    • In-Person Session: After Completing the Online portion you ill need to complete the 10-hour in-person selfdefense tactics and firearms portion by clicking here. TPD Course price $130
      • **IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SHOOTING PORTION OF THIS COURSE** Students must be proficient in the firearms they will be qualifying in, as Instructors can not assist the student during the proficiency test.   • MMPI: As of January 1, 2024 all original and renewing applicants for a commissioned security officer license are required to complete the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory (MMPI).  For more information click here.

Texas Level IV Private Security Officer (personal Protection Officer aka PPO)

  • Minimum Age: Applicants seeking Personal Protection Officer authorization must be at least 21 years old.
  • Application: You will need to apply for your Level IV License with the State of Texas by clicking here. Click this link for the State fees: Texas State Fee Schedule
  • Training: Class is 2 consecutive days, 15 hours of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and assessment. Class is conducted at 407 Gun Club in Argyle, Tx. To register for this 100% in person class click here.
  • MMPI: As of January 1, 2024 all original and renewing applicants for a commissioned security officer license are required to complete the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory (MMPI).  For more information click here.

Re-Certification for Texas Level III Private Security Officer (Steps also apply to Level IV Re-certification)

  • Application: You will need to apply for your Level III License re-certification by clicking here. For the State fees click on this link: Texas State Fee Schedule
    • Your application must be submitted online to this agency and all training requirements submitted within 90 days prior to the expiration date. Your application and training cannot be done prior to the 90 from your expiration date.
  • Training:
    • Online Classroom Portion: You will need to take the Level III re-certification online Course by clicking here. TPD Cost $45
    • In-Person Course Portion: After Completing the Online portion you ill need to complete the in-person self defense tactics and firearms portion by clicking here. TPD Cost $85
